Whodunit Award Winners

“A mystery is a whodunit. You know what happened, but not how or who's behind it. A thriller, or a suspense, is a howdunit. You know what happened, and you usually know who did it, but you keep reading because you want to know how they pulled it off.”
- M. J. Rose

People say, ‘What advice do you have for people who want to be writers?’ I say, they don’t really need advice, they know they want to be writers, and they’re gonna do it.”
- R.L. Stine,

“A whodunit or whodunnit (for ‘Who done [did] it?’) is a complex, plot-driven variety of the detective story in which the puzzle is the main feature of interest. The reader or viewer is provided with clues from which the identity of the perpetrator of the crime may be deduced before the solution is revealed in the final pages of the book.”
- Goodreads

Each year Absolutely Amazing eBooks sponsores a mystery writing contest. The entrants submit the first three pages of a finished mystery novel for a blind judging. The idea behind this approach was suggested by the late Jeremiah Healy, a mystery writer who believed you had to “hook” a reader in the first three pages to get him or her to read your book. The winner of the competition receives the prestigious Whodunit Award. The prize includes getting the winning book published by AAeB. Below are winners worthy of your giving the first three pages a try … because you will keep reading to the end.
